Who is Kate?
I am a passionate supporter of women in STEM, a confident public speaker, a startup founder, business leader, super connector, hula hooper and lover of glitter. Oh, and I was just named the 2024 WA Young Australian of the Year.
I may only be 30 but don’t let my age fool you for inexperience, I have worked in corporate environments since I was 17, and have more than 11 years experience in running events. I started my career working as a secretary, before moving to Multiple Sclerosis WA as an Event Coordinator – responsible for managing logics of charity events for up to 1000 participants. In 2014 I joined the team at Spacecubed, managing events and community for the coworking space, and throwing myself into the startup community. It was here at age 21 that I founded She Codes Australia.
Thanks to She Codes, more than 7000 women across Australia have learnt to code, and I have managed to shine a national spotlight on the challenges faced by women in STEM and am paving the way for a much needed rebrand of the tech industry.
I am a confident public speaker and my work has seen me presenting at a number of events from large conferences like Women in Tech WA to small panel discussions. I have also featured on multiple podcasts including Weird Growth, Changing the Game, STEAM Powered and Startup West, as well as on radio with the ABC and 6PR.
